In light of 2023, we’d like to present some New Year’s Resolutions for Beer Lovers! Now, if you’re interested in becoming a self-proclaimed beer nerd (in the best way possible, of course), we’ve come up with ways to make your wish come true. Congratulations, you’re on your way to finally fulfilling a New Year’s Resolution! If you’re not that into beer yet, don’t worry because these resolutions are worthy of anyone’s list.
Now, if you’re the type to dive into the books and study up, then by all means, do your thing. But if you’re unsure about where to start we’ve outlined a few key aspects that will not only boost your brew knowledge, but also get the attention of those around you and get you set up for a successful Brew Year. Are you ready?
1.Start Drinking More Beer Styles
Whether you’re a seasoned beer tasting pro or just dipping your toes into the world of craft beer, there’s always room to try more beer styles. Yes, we’re saying you should drink more craft beer! Not only will this help you recognize the subtleties between the beer styles themselves, but you’ll also come to notice each brewery has its own flare, meaning an IPA from one brewery could have a completely unique taste compared to an IPA from somewhere else.
Have you mastered step one? Great, the next one's on tap!
2.Invest In Proper Glassware
While some may say the glassware shouldn't matter if it’s a great beer...they are right to an extent. Sure, a beer will taste good to the average person, but remember you’re not average. You’re here to become the next beer expert! No time for slacking off - start with the glassware for styles you love and grow your collection as your palate and taste preferences broaden. A trusty beer opener is always a plus too.
3.Learn Brew Terms
There’s no better way to announce “I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT” than if you mispronounce or use the wrong beer terminology with true beer fanatics. But don’t worry, it’s an easy fix and you’ll be talking about ABV’s, IBU’s, Hop Varieties, and more like nobody’s business! Reading the labels on your brews as you drink them is a great way to commit the basics to memory, but the best way is to do a bit of research and light reading about brew styles and brewing or search for some helpful videos. You can even begin by asking questions when visiting your local breweries. But we prefer the “learn by drinking”, I mean, “learn by doing” method...
4.Get Involved
An awesome way to become more versed in the craft beer domain is to get involved! Recruit some friends to come along on your journey, or even dabble in some home-brewing yourself. All are great options and the world is your brew kettle, so decide what lines up with your beer goals and start small or jump all the way in!
