Ticket to Ride Tournament

Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ticket-to-ride-tournament-tickets-46510496146

That's right, we're hosting a Ticket to Ride Tournament! If you're familiar with the game, then you already know how awesome it is. If you're not, then you're probably wondering why the hell a game based on a Beatles song has a train on the cover. Well that's because it's not based on a Beatles song, it's based on claiming train routes! Wait, no, don't leave. It's not as boring as that makes it sound. This is a great, easy-to-learn strategy game that's won countless awards. And we can teach you how to play before the tourney starts.

If this isn't all enough, you get a token good for a free beer with your ticket. What beer you ask? Anything from the tap at Down the Road Brewery, winner of Boston Magazine's Malt Madness competition for best local brewery. That's right, free beer and building imaginary train tracks!* You want more reasons to attend? Winner gets a trophy and eternal glory in our Hall of Champions: http://www.playboardgameempire.com/hall-of-champions

We know what you're wondering though, how much do tickets cost? Well that depends on how fast you act. The first three people to buy tickets get them for only $3 each (the minimum full-dollar amount eventbrite lets us charge)! Every ticket after that costs $1 more than the ticket before it. So if you're the fourth person to buy a ticket, it costs you $4. Fifth person? $5. Seventh person? We think you get the point. Once we hit $10, the tickets go up $1 for every two people who get a ticket. So the 11th and 12th person get theirs for $11 each. 13th and 14th, $12 each. Again, you get the point. Wanna attend? Grab your spot now.

*BoardGame Emprie does not condone drinking and building real train tracks. Please consult with a physician, an attorney and the US Railroad Commission before doing anything so stupid.

**Tickets are eligible for refund up to 24 hours beforet the event. After that, we're spending all the money from your ticket on something fun and totally nonrefundable. Early favorite for thing we will buy: https://www.amazon.com/slp/best-hoverboards/2mfj29cvetjp6kk

***In order for this event to run, at least 7 people must purchase tickets. If we get to 24 hours before the event start time and still haven't sold 7 spots we'll cancel. We consider this to be very unlikely but did want to let you know that going in.

Comedy Tour

Herron Entertainment has been producing the best shows at clubs and theaters across the country and is now bringing those same great shows to the breweries across America. Featuring comedians in an environment they truly can feel at home in.

Herron Entertainment continues to lead the way in comedy with its cross country brewery tour. Featuring some of the best NYC and LA based comedians without NYC/LA prices because we know your money is important to you and only want you to enjoy a nice night out - without having to take out a loan.

Comedy Clubs all over the country have been producing the same style of comedy since the 1980s and have yet to step outside of the bubble and mix up their stale lineups - so we will do it instead. We will bring the future of entertainment to you.

When our stand up comedy, cross country brewery tour kicks off, we will be featuring the best and brightest NYC/LA based comedians and every city in between. As of February, Herron has 98 breweries lined up and has set a goal of visiting 300 breweries this year alone. We have spent 8 months planning and scouting the perfect locations for these shows and NONE of them will disappoint you. Some have gourmet food (not soggy chicken tendies) and ICE COLD beer made FRESH on location so there's no skunk funk or watery drinks for $15 each (see above re: taking out a loan)

These comics will be touring your state(s) and cities performing in breweries and bars sampling the local fare, local brew and making you laugh. Get tickets fast - these shows are all selling out.

ON TAP (pun intended) for Herron Entertainment, LLC is "The BREWERY COMEDY TOUR" and it's picking up much steam as it heads into 2018 promising to hit 300 breweries all across the U.S.A.

Given his introverted characteristics, when it came time to speak in front of the class, his natural gift to make people laugh came out. Although these engagements were few and far between, they were the initial experiences that prompted him into standup comedy.

At 26, he has been writing and performing comedy for over six years. With performance experiences panning a spectrum of clubs, colleges, bars, organizations, and even a house party or two. He has entertained audiences of all backgrounds, finding little need to shock or disgust crowds for effect. CODY WOODS

A decade later, Cody Woods has been headlining clubs, colleges and international USO tours while spoiling audiences with a hilariously smart and brave brand of comedy. http://www.earthkrymusic.com/

The EarthKry band was born and nurtured within the halls of the Edna Manley College of The Visual & Performing Arts in Kingston Jamaica, where four budding musicians hoped to hone their skills. Their journey began in 2012 with a twist of fate which brought together lead singer and guitarist Aldayne Haughton, keyboard player Phillip Mcfarlane , drummer Kieron Cunningham and bass guitarist Kamardo Blake, to play a series of small gigs. Drawing inspiration from Bob Marley and The Wailers, The Beatles, John Holt, Black Uhuru and Steel Pulse, the group soon cemented a wholesome fusion of Roots Reggae, Souls and Rock genres for a fresh but universal sound.

Much like the iconic reggae outfit The Wailers, the band chose its name, EarthKry, to signify its mission to voice the grievances of the downtrodden through the vibrations of their music. Befittingly, their debut single “9 to 5” echoes the daily tribulations of the working class who are barely able to make ends meet from their menial wages.

In April 2015 EarthKry entered The Ostroda Festival’s “World Reggae Contest” with their “9 to 5” single where they became the only Jamaican band to make it to the top ten, placing 7th out of 102 entries from across the globe. Thereafter “9 to 5” was released on Amazon, iTunes, Spotify and several other digital distribution media, marking another momentous achievement for the band.

As EarthKry strives to provide a medium of escape for people all over the world with their uplifting songs, the band continues their journey to becoming a household name. With a series of live performances at local hot spots they have already begun making their mark on the local scene, impressing their audience most notably at Merritone’s 25th Anniversary show in Montego Bay at Sea Gardens Hotel, Chronixx Capture Land Tour, Manchester and Rebel Salute 2016. The band anticipates taking their act to international stages for further promotion.

Through the guidance of musicians Nambo Robinson and Maurice Gordon, the band released their first E.P ‘Hard Road’ October 2015 during their island Hard Road Tour, followed by their US tour of 10 states, as they work towards their release of the first album for 2017.

Opening act will be preformed by http://jahnirootsmovement.com/

Indie Board Game Demo Night

Indie Board Game Demo Night

You like board games, huh? Well have you played Moonquake? Where you're aliens trapped on a prison planet fighting over the one rocket that can get you out of there before the planet implodes? Have you played Clubhouse Defense Squad? Where you're a team of children defending their clubhouse from the most evil bad guys imaginable? Some of the most fun games are ones you've never heard of, not being built by the giant gaming companies, but being created by local designers right here in Boston.

May 30th, we're giving you a chance to try some of those awesome games and to meet the people who created them. We'll have six indie game designers showing off their inventions, and if the event starts selling especially well, we'll add more. We'll have a mix of games, ranging from party games any group of friends could get behind to meaty strategy options you can sit down and dig into for a good 40-60 minutes, and games in between.

Those of you who have attended our previous two indie game developers nights may see a couple of familiar designers, but every game being showcased will be one we haven't demoed before.

Tickets are going for the are-you-kidding-me-that's-cheap price of $10, but that gets you more than just the right to play cool games and meet their designers for three hours, that alo gets you a token good for any one beer at Down the Road Brewery- fresh off their malt madness victory in Boston Magazine for best local brewery beer (https://www.bostonmagazine.com/restaurants/2018/04/05/malt-madness-2018-winner/). For those of you who have never been to the brewery it's got delicious beer, an awesome staff, and wall-to-wall pinball machines. Seriously, why have you not bought a ticket already?

First 7 people to buy tickets get theirs for only $5.

DTR Presents: The Chef Brew Project with The Gallery - W Hotel

Tickets: $50

If you have ever been to a Down The Road beer dinner, you know the pleasure of a well-chosen course - tart sours and juicy burgers, complex IPAs and hot curries and, of course, rich stouts and dark chocolate. Nothing is better than a well-paired nosh, and we honestly can’t get enough of them (check our events calendar - the proof is in the pudding). But this got us thinking, what happens if we go deeper on this concept? The Brew Chef Project puts our monthly featured chef behind our brewhouse control panel to craft their own custom beer. The chef’s beer will take center stage alongside a selection of DTR classics as each beer is paired with a unique, catered course for our esteemed guests.

Round Two

Chef Derek Barragan from The Gallery at W Hotel will be joining us on April 24th with a creative and mouth-watering menu that will surprise and delight your palate. Chef Derek, along with food and beverage manager Maurice Rodriguez, teamed up with Down The Road head brewer Donovan Bailey to create a Triple IPA that will be paired with the final dish of the night. Those lucky enough to have secured tickets will enjoy that and three other courses paired with a diverse lineup of our beers. Guests are encouraged to vote on their favorite dish combination; the winning course will be announced at the end of the night.

Looking Ahead

Down The Road has booked a different chef for every last Tuesday for the rest of the year. The list is filled with all sorts of folk, from James Beard recipients to lifetime restaurant veterans to upstart visionaries with dreams of greatness. We want to provide an arena to showcase the many culinary gems that have sprouted across the state, and we invite all of you to join us for what promises to be a celebration of flavor like no other. Settlers of Catan Tournament at Down The Road Beer Co.

Settlers of Catan Tournament at Down The Road Beer Co.

Register

We don’t know whether it’s the way the game was built or the joy that comes from announcing to the room that you have wood for sheep, but there's something about Settlers of Catan that makes it still hold up even 3+ decades after it came out (don't wikipedia fact check us, we're right, it's been over 3 decades). So we're hosting a Settlers tournament on May 2nd at Down the Road Brewery in Everett.

We're sure you have some questions, so we're answering them here...

Q: What if I don't know how to play Settlers of Catan?

A: Then you're a philistine. But that's totally cool. We will have an expert rules-ologist on hand to explain how the game works before we get started.

Q: I only play Settlers if it's with my fourteen favorite expansions.

A: Go away.

Q: How does this work?

A: Bracket style tournament. Everyone plays in one of four games, and the winner from each game advances to the finals. Tournament champ gets a (not very expensive) prize, a trophy and immortality in our Hall of Champions (http://www.playboardgameempire.com/hall-of-champions/).

Q: Everett? Isn't that like 800 miles north of the city and you need a sherpa to show you how to get there?

A: Actually it's only ten minutes outside of Boston. You take the orange line to Sullivan Square and then switch to a bus that drops you off about a block from the brewery.

Q: A BUS??! WHAT ARE YOU INSANE??! WHO TAKES A BUS?!

A: Argh, fine, just Uber.

Q: I prefer Lyft.

A: Sure.

Q: So this is definitely happening, right?

A: Only if we get at least five people to sign up, and we're all filled up once we hit 18 players, so grab a spot quick.

Q: QuickLY.

A: Go away.

Board Game Speed Dating

Board Game Speed Dating

Purchase tickets here

Finding someone can be horrifically painful. But board games are always awesome. So what if you combined board games and searching for a partner?

Picture this: You sit down for a night of games. A gaming concierge walks you through several games over the course of the night. You play classics and have fun playing brand new games you've never heard of, playing each with a different group of people, getting a chance to meet some other fun singles. All while in a really cool brewery with plenty of delicious adult beverages. At the end of the night, you give your gaming concierge a list of the folks you met that you'd like to date and a list of those you met that you'd like to just hang out with as friends. If any two people put down the same name as each other in either column, then your gaming concierge will make sure you get each other's e-mail address and you can coordinate a time to hang out.

Best case scenario: You find true love, discover some awesome board games, and make some new friends.

Bad case scenario: You accomplish only one of those three things, which is still pretty great.

Worst case scenario: There will be alcohol.

Before you decide to buy tickets, a few basics we should cover:

1) This is for single people ages 21-35.

2) Tickets are $20 each, but they come with a $5 gift card to the brewery. The brewery also will have a food vendor on-hand that night serving deliciousness all night, but your gift card unfortunately can't be used towards the food as they are an independent vendor not associated with the brewery. What food vendor you ask? Great question. They're called T'AHPAS 529 and they are a lively modern Spanish and Mediterranean restaurant with unique specialties from around the globe.

3) Refunds are only available to those who cancel with more than 24 hours' notice (exceptions will be made for emergency situations on a case-by-case basis). After that, we're blowing the money from your ticket sale on something awesome and nonrefundable. This is partly because we love living a life of extravagance on someone else's dime, but also because it's not fair to everyone else if the attendance is lower than they thought it would be because a handful of people flaked at the 11th hour.

4) If we get to 24 hours before the event and still haven't sold five tickets for each gender we will cancel the event (and notify you). We think this is very unlikely, but wanted to include a note about it in case that possibility arose.

5) How many games we have and which ones we use will be based in part on how many people attend, so we can't tell you for sure what we'll have right now. But the goal is for all of them to be fun, light, easy-to-learn games, and to include both ones you have played before and some new ones we think you'd enjoy. No, they are not games focused on sparking conversation, but we have a hunch that over the course of a game together, you'll have a gut instinct about whether or not you'd want to date/hang out with someone all the same.

Art Show with AcomaArt @ Down The Road Beer Co.

Alvin "Acóma" is a Boston-based artist with over 20 years of experience working as a painter, sculptor, and airbrush artist. His journey as an artist began at the early age of 11 as he practiced graffiti art. In 1995, he was featured in an exhibit hosted at the Massachusetts State House and titled "Graffiti In The House." His work has been auctioned off and purchased by many people such as Marcy Jackson (Assistant Attorney General), Paul Simons, from Partners and Simons and many more. The opportunity to feature his art at such a prestigious venue inspired him to create more works of art on canvas.

Since then, he has collaborated with several artists and featured his talent on murals displayed throughout the Boston area. He attended MassArt where he studied graphic design and honed his artistic talent. Throughout college, he co-owned a business named MadInk, where he designed and airbrushed custom apparel for individuals who were looking for unique garments that could not be purchased in any major retail store. In 2014 he was commissioned by the Boston Police Academy to create a portrait of the late Mayor Menino and presented it to him during his last year in office.

Acóma' continues to grow as an artist and believes in building avenues for individuals to explore their artistic talents. Today, he is the owner and Director of Paris Street Gallery/Studios, a space in Everett, Massachusetts that houses his own private studio and promotes art to the greater Boston-area community.

The Brew Chef Project: Toro vs. Little Donkey

Tickets

The Bay State is in the middle of a culinary renaissance. It wasn’t long ago that a basket of greasy fried clams was the pinnacle of Massachusetts cuisine. Now it seems like every town and city in the Commonwealth has an upscale eatery with the chops to stand up to the best, and Down The Road wants in on the action.

Introducing: The Brew Chef Project. Each month, DTR will host a special dinner presented by renowned local chefs, and we’re kicking off with a big one: Toro vs. Little Donkey.

The Brew Chef Project

If you have ever been to a Down The Road beer dinner, you know the pleasure of a well-chosen course - tart sours and juicy burgers, complex IPAs and hot curries and, of course, rich stouts and dark chocolate. Nothing is better than a well-paired nosh, and we honestly can’t get enough of them (check our events calendar - the proof is in the pudding). The chef’s beer will take center stage alongside a selection of DTR classics as each beer is paired with a unique, catered course for our esteemed guests.

Round One

Nothing gets the party started like a little star power, so we’re kicking off with Toro and Little Donkey. Two of the pillars of Boston’s cutting edge culinary scene are meeting in the ultimate showdown of good eats and tasty brews. Both of the teams will meet in advance of the event to collaborate on cooking up an English-style Extra Special Bitter (ESB) that will play first fiddle for the dinner. Then on Tuesday, March 27th, those lucky enough to have secured tickets will enjoy two preparations per course of beer and small plate pairings. Guests will be encouraged to vote on their prefered flavor combination, and a winner will be announced at the end of the night.

Looking Ahead

Down The Road has booked a different chef for every last Tuesday for the rest of the year. The list is filled with all sorts of folk, from James Beard recipients to lifetime restaurant veterans to upstart visionaries with dreams of greatness.
