Helmed by veteran brewer Donovan Bailey, Down The Road Beer Co. is one of the fastest-growing breweries in the Greater Boston area. We’re working around the clock to cap construction of a state-of-the-art brewhouse and 300-person Everett taproom, just blocks from the Wynn Boston Harbor Casino. We can’t wait for the official ribbon-cutting in fall 2017, but we are even more excited to share a beer with everyone who has supported DTR from our humble beginnings.
Meet The Brewer
Donovan Bailey, founder and head brewer of Down The Road Beer Co., is a competitive homebrewer turned pro who has been making beer for over 20 years. A poorly kept secret, Donovan started brewing before he was legally allowed to drink with the assistance of his co-conspirator and encouraging dad, Wayne. Although "Big D" is the first to admit that his early batches were less than palatable, years of practice paired with a BS in microbiology have upped Donovan’s brewing game considerably.
After spending most of his 20s in the Army, Donovan claimed more than his fair share of gold medals from the American homebrew tournament circuit before leaving his day job to jump into the deep end of the New England beer renaissance. In April 2015, Donovan broke into the Massachusetts craft scene with his first batch of Pukwudgie American Pale Ale. Since then, Down The Road has grown by leaps and bounds to become one of the fastest-growing craft breweries in the state.
As a brewmaster, Donovan prefers more historic, European styles, but he never dogmatically cleaves to tradition, choosing instead to innovate and improvise. Informed by the past yet inspired by the present, this split between tradition and invention is the core of Down The Road beer. Never too bitter, sweet, boozy or dry, this beer is meant for drinking.
Ultimately, Donovan wants to share his passion for beer with the world, inviting people of all walks to join him at Down The Road Beer Co. to enjoy quality drink amid the company of friends. The next time you visit, feel free to introduce yourself and challenge him to a game of pinball.
Meet the crew
Chief Financial Officer
Felice is our chief numbers guy. He loves spreadsheets and beer. Before joining DTR in February 2017, he spent the previous 12 years on Wall St. as a commodities market investor. With the unwavering support from his family, Felice turned in his Bloomberg Terminal for a DTR hat & t-shirt and hasn't looked back. As an avid home-brewer, Felice also enjoys designing new takes on original beer styles, and looks forward to crafting some experimental releases for the DTR Taproom.
Melissa is a passionate beer lover and former homebrewer, whose current Down the Road favorite brew is Patchwork Kilt. In addition to her background in homebrewing, Melissa has over ten years of experience as a Beverage Director and Mixologist in the cities of New York and Boston and created her own cocktail bitters company, called Bitter Bitches. She loves long walks with her chihuahua, Tito, vintage motorcycles, her husband's ginger beard, roller derby, and is hopelessly obsessed with Star Wars. Be sure to say hello when you come to visit the taproom!
Jon's official title at Down the Road is "Sales Manager," but he is so much more than that. Jon is the organizational force behind Down the Road's sales, events and promotions. A native of Wisconsin, Jon draws on his background in TV production and college basketball to cultivate a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie within DTR's salesforce. He is the first contact for prospective customers, event coordinators and anyone else who is interested in working with Down the Road Beer Co.
Chief Writer, Marketing Coordinator and Sales Representative
Brendan is Down The Road's Swiss Army knife. In addition to selling to the entire south coast, Cod Cod and Martha's Vineyard, Brendan takes point on package design, social media, newsletters, press releases, etc. He's the nerd behind most of DTR's mythological creatures and wacky stories, and he came to the beer industry after a brief career as a high school English teacher, which he abandoned due to its distinct lack of drinking and swearing.
Allegra grew up in the tiny town of Winchendon, MA where she spent her childhood days gallivanting through the fields of Ingleside and repping the Wapiti - her High School mascot. While majoring in hospitality and tourism management in college, Allegra tried a few different routes but couldn't decide what was right. Thanks to a few beer-loving pals she met while hiking the Appalachian Trail and an informative beverage management class, she got even more excited about a future in the craft beer industry. She then found Down the Road Beer, with their gorgeous artwork, deliciously thirst-quenching brews, and welcoming work environment. When she's not tearing it up in Western, MA, Allegra is enjoying a nice cup of tea and a book, singing her heart out to some car jams, eating half-gallons of ice cream, dancing around her house, taking pictures of flowers, learning something new, cleaning the kitchen, becoming the Lord of Catan, or going on adventures with her family.
Marc comes with 10+ years in the beverage industry. Marc started in the beer industry with Tiger Beer before leaving to spear head all the promotional and sponsorship events for the Moet Hennessy's New England portfolio. After 4 years with MHUSA, he left to launch Deep Eddy Vodka in New England and the mid-Atlantic. Once he dominated the vodka market, Marc realized that boring, corporate life wasn't for him, and that's when the startup junkie found Down The Road. Marc was hooked, and immediately came on board to help spread the word about DTR and its killer portfolio of craft beer.
Antoine does it all - deliveries, warehouse management, bookkeeping, Donovan-wrangling - you name it! Antoine first came to DTR as an intern in 2015 and returned full-time after he graduated from Clark University. Antoine has always been attracted to craft beer and the industry because of the people. Everyone seems to get along, even people/companies who are supposed to be rivals often offer one another a helping hand. Besides beer he loves the outdoors and spends his (rare) free time with big, outside surfing, mountain biking, hiking, skiing, etc. Antoine has 3 passports, French, British, and US, and often summers in France, where he was born. Antoine is passionate about long walks on the beach as well as Netflix & chill.
Aubree started marketing with Down The Road Brewery in June. Before Down the Road she was the Marketing Director for B.GOOD restaurants for 6 years. Some of Aubree's hobbies include homebrewing and trying every new beer out there. Aubree was excited to join the team because she loved the company, the people that work there and the beer they produce. On her free time she plays basketball against a bunch of sweaty older men, but let's be honest, it's really for the beers after. Aubree is naturally competitive and has a gift/problem trying to create a game out of every situation. Aubree is a dog mom of two, an English Bulldog puppy named Sir Winston and a female Lhasa Apso named Bill Murray. Her idea of a perfect day would include hanging with the pups while enjoying some great Down The Road beer.
On the dark and stormy night of March 3rd 1993, Ian Snyder burst into this world destined for greatness, but the world was ill-prepared for what was to come. Snyder often elicits favorable comparisons to a tornado - complete carnage might be the proper term. After a hard fought battle against the physical sciences, the many caffeine and booze-fueled nights took its toll on his body, and the mighty Ian grew to resent the time he spent earning his science degree. Ian grew angry, his beard grew long, and his hair grew thin. At the moment of his graduation, he faced the world a tired broken young man. In his rage, he cursed the skies and begged Satan for guidance. The earth cracked and the fires of Hell billowed from the sundered earth. A booming voice rang out "Your path is Down the Road!" Once discovering Down The Road, Ian followed the signs and has been an invaluable asset to the company ever since.
